SUMMARY:See the partial eclipse from Tooting Common with SWL Stargazers
DESCRIPTION:Join South West London Stargazers for a Spectacular Partial Sol
 ar Eclipse!\n\nOn Tuesday 12 August\, we'll have the chance to witness a d
eep partial solar eclipse from London\, with the Moon covering an impressi
ve 91.43% of the Sun at maximum eclipse. While a total eclipse will only b
e visible from parts of Spain and the far North Atlantic\, this will still
be one of the most dramatic solar eclipses visible from the UK in many ye
ars.\n\nWe'll be gathering on Tooting Common\, near the Dr Johnson Avenue
car park and bus stop\, to observe the eclipse safely together.\n\nEclipse
  timings (London):\n• First contact: 6:17 pm\n• Maximum eclipse: 7:13
pm\n• Eclipse ends: 8:06 pm\n\nAlthough the Sun will not be completely c
overed here\, you may notice the daylight becoming slightly dimmer and the
temperature dropping a little as the eclipse reaches its peak. Most impor
tantly\, weather permitting\, we'll be able to watch the Moon slowly move
across the face of the Sun and experience the changing light of this remar
kable celestial event.\n\nWe'll have safe viewing equipment available\, in
 cluding:\n• A telescope fitted with a Baader solar filter for close-up v
iews of the eclipsed Sun.\n• Plenty of certified solar eclipse glasses f
or everyone attending.\n\nIf you have your own safe solar observing equipm
ent\, please feel free to bring it along. We'd be especially delighted to
see any specialist solar telescopes capable of observing the Sun in hydrog
en-alpha wavelengths\, revealing features such as prominences and other so
 lar activity invisible in ordinary white-light views.\n\nWhether you're a
seasoned observer or have never seen a solar eclipse before\, come along a
nd share this memorable astronomical event with fellow stargazers. Fingers
  crossed for clear skies! &#x2600\;&#xfe0f\;&#x1f319\;&#x1f52d\;\n
