Solar eclipse special at the Dark Space Planetarium

Experience one of nature’s most spectacular astronomical events at the Dark Space Planetarium in Kirkcudbright!

The evening begins with an introductory talk from Dr Oriel Marshall, who will explain the science behind solar eclipses and what to look out for during this remarkable celestial event.

You’ll then be able to follow the eclipse as it unfolds across Europe with a live ESA broadcast of totality from the Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre in Spain.

Meanwhile, Kirkcudbright will experience an impressive partial solar eclipse. If skies are clear, the Dark Space team will head down to the Harbour with their specially equipped solar telescope, giving you the opportunity to safely see the partially eclipsed Sun for yourself.

It’s a fantastic chance to experience the eclipse both locally and from the path of totality in Spain — combining expert insight, live coverage and real-time solar observing.
